Exercise 1: Search Process

To gather information and data regarding Club 18-30 Style Mediterranean Party Tourism Holidays, procedural steps were followed. This section will outline the procedure followed to get the literature used. For the researcher to get comprehensive information about the topic, systematic and thorough search of all the types of published literature were listed to get good quality references that are relevant (White, 2009). For the literature search to be successful, undoubtedly, through review of the literature has to be carried out from the beginning (Kitchenham et al., 2009). By getting literature search helps in saving the time allotted for the research and will help also improve the research.

The search of the literature on Club 18-30 Style Mediterranean Party Tourism Holidays was carried out from 5th August to 12th August. However, initial searches were done early July 2016 and then repeated later for new references in late July 2016.

While doing, the search different databases were used. To get the required information I used the ISI Web of Knowledge, the Club’s directory, Search engines of Holiday places. Further, I also perused through tour and travels magazines to get the information about the place. I concluded the search by combing through the different articles within my University to find out information regarding the club. While doing the search, I carried out a systematic search of the published literature on different online databases including Embase, ACM Digital Library, EconLit, and HEED. My search ideally started by checking through the multi-disciplinary journal databases resources. Some of the journal databases included JSTOR, Academic OneFile. The use of multi-disciplinary was mainly because they have peer-reviewed journals that would be essential for this study. I also used publisher’s database to get the required information for the study. The main databases that I used in the process included Emerald, Sage, and Science Direct.

Additionally, when carrying out the search, I also made use of the other relevant contents that were non-journal. The contents included e-books, magazines, encyclopedias, images, newspapers, information available within the publication of the local authority and video and audio as well.

To carry out the search for the literature, search terms were used. Using search terms helped to improve the quality of search. Some of the search terms that were used included “Club 18-30 Style” “Mediterranean Party Tourism” “Holidays”, “Club 18-30” “Mediterranean Party Tourism Holidays”. The whole name of the club was treated as the main keyword for the search. While doing the search, the research developed a series of primary or key search terms. Using the search terms, the scope of the literature under review was achieved. The terms used were categorized in different groups under very many and different themes that were used to facilitate the search. To achieve the best results out of the search, the combination of search terms was very instrumental. Further, the results obtained were grouped, and the ones that matched the specifications were outlined (Vom Brocke et al., 2009).

To cover the search terms, I formulated search equations (Vom Brocke et al., 2009). While doing my search, I relied mainly on the search terms, which included “Holidays” and “Club 18-30. The keywords were used with a combination of other key words, which included “Mediterranean Party” and “Tourism”. By using the combination, the search becomes very narrow, and the target was properly defined. While doing the search, the main words or the primary words were applied in all fields. The fields where they were applied included abstract, keywords and full text. The results that were obtained led to the comprehensive literature that was captured in the study. While doing the search, original articles, publications and literature reviews published from 1st January 2008 to August 20th, 2016 were considered. The publications were of different languages including English, French, German, and Italian all included.

During the search process, there was also mixing things up. By mixing things up, the scope of search expanded. This search strategy was mainly applied on some selected databases using selected keywords. To ensure that optimum search is achieved from the terms, I coordinated with a friend of mine to help in doing the search. We did independent, different, and parallel searches to ensure that articles are not left out. Additionally, I also did backtracking to ensure that I get earlier sources. Also, I did forward-tracking using the sage to ensure that central sources are captured. Further, I also cross-referenced literature reviews to get the bibliographies. To supplement the search, I had to consult with experts to get opinions and recommendations regarding the searched referenced lists. Through this process, I was able to identify the relevant studies for the topic. More sources were identified using internal citations and references within the documents that were retrieved when carrying out the first search.

Using the search criteria outlined, there were numerous materials that were got. This necessitated that I limit the search. First, I began by selecting the peer-reviewed articles, preferably the Holiday journals. When doing the search, including monographs was difficult as accessing many books were limited, and the quality was also limited given that they are less objectively assessed. Owing to the method applied, the review automatically excluded the research that was currently underway and was not available within the mentioned databases or studies that were not yet published in English. Given that the review is about Club 18-30 Style Mediterranean Party Tourism Holidays, it did not take into account searches of Tourism or Holidays alone.

After carrying out the first extensive bit of the literature, 160 articles were found, and they all focused on the main topic. The initial literature was to be used for further review and analysis. Further, screening of different databases happened using the search criteria outlined to reduce the number of usable works or publications.

In the end, only 27 articles were used, and they included 11 reviews and 16 original articles. While doing the search, there was a systematic method that was applied and included using the date of search, the databases used were also outlined, search terms were mentioned (Howard, Culley and Dekoninck, 2008). Further, the search also included details of search equations were also highlighted. The number of results that were found was also highlighted, and the final number of documents used also noted.

From table 13 above we can see that 40% of the respondents who were neither satisfied nor dissatisfied during the visiting do rarely visit the club 18-30 Mediterranean Party Tourism holiday and 60% of the respondents who were neither satisfied nor dissatisfied during the visiting do rarely visit the club 18-30 Mediterranean Party Tourism holiday.

For the respondents who were satisfied during visiting, 7.1% visited club 18-30 Mediterranean Party Tourism holiday rarely, 42.9% visited club 18-30 Mediterranean Party Tourism holiday frequently and 50% visited club 18-30 Mediterranean Party Tourism holiday very frequently.

For the respondents who were very satisfied during visiting, 9.1% visited club 18-30 Mediterranean Party Tourism holiday rarely, 27.3% visited club 18-30 Mediterranean Party Tourism holiday frequently and 63.6% visited club 18-30 Mediterranean Party Tourism holiday very frequently.

Table 14:

Abbildung in dieser Leseprobe nicht enthalten

From table 14 a chi square test was conducted to determine if the frequency with which a customer visits the club 18-30 Mediterranean party Tourism Holiday is associated with the level of satisfaction a customer gets while visiting the club 18-30 Mediterranean party Tourism Holiday. Looking at the Pearson Chi-square the p-value is 0.022 which is less than the significance level of 0.05 (Novara et al., 2009). Therefore, the study reject the null hypothesis and conclude that the frequency with which a customer visits the club 18-30 Mediterranean party Tourism Holiday is not associated with the level of satisfaction a customer gets while visiting the club 18-30 Mediterranean party Tourism Holiday.

Hence this means that customers who were satisfied during the visit to the club 18-30 Mediterranean party Tourism Holiday tend to visit the club more frequently compared with the customers who were not satisfied during the visiting. The club should therefore implement strategies that will make sure that as many customers are satisfied during their visit so that the can be able to increase the number of customers who visit the club frequently.

Exercise 4: Reflection Interviews

While carrying out the interviews, the process entailed 35 interviewees. Out of this, 22 were males and 13 were females. Most of the individuals I interviewed had visited club 18-30 Mediterranean party Tourism Holiday more than twice with 13 interviewees stating that they had visited the place 3 times. When carrying out the interviews, I recorded it so that I could get the exact words from the research participants. However, transcribing everything was a challenge as the volume of interviews was large. When sampling the individuals who were to take part in the study, I applied both convenience technique and snowball sampling. The study participants who took part in the first interview mainly suggested that snowball sampling would work. They named other friends and colleagues who wanted to be part of the study. It was the first time that I learnt that snowball was critical in getting more participants especially after I got the first contacts (Heckathorn, 2011). However, when picking my respondents, I was keen to take individuals from different backgrounds.

Nonetheless, getting the right participants for the study took some time as most of the individuals had been on holiday and never wanted to take part in any query. Each of the interview process took nearly 20-30 minutes and every interview done was recorded. One thing that I liked is that participants were cooperative and none of the participants was stubborn when recording them. After doing the interview, I proceeded to transcribe for content analysis. While doing this, I realized that transcription helps in minimizing the memory limit and the process was instrumental for me as I got to have full knowledge of issues that were mentioned by the respondents. I also learnt about the emerging themes when I decided to transcribe the interview. After doing the first two interviews, I made several changes. Some of the changes that I made involved asking questions that were direct. I also decided to probe more questions while doing the other interviews to help get a full picture and comprehension of the matters at hand.
