Excerpt from the Book
3.1. Detailed description of work packages
The culture and creative sector is one of the most dynamic fields in the European Union. In recent years there has been a great deal of interest in cultural effects on regional development confirmed by few studies (Maenpa, 2012). In our EU regional development office “Holzwelt Murau” we are also convinced, that culture is a necessary part for successful regional development work. For this reason and culture project named “Kunst- und Kulturnetzwerk Murau” renamed to “Holzweltkultur” was installed in 2011. The impact was to connect regional artists and culture, discover of creative potential and bring it to the market. This project should be extended and upgraded in the next period 2015-2020. As we have now the situation that most of the artists and cultural representatives are happy to have an institution like “Holzweltkultur”, we are confident that other regions also have advantages with such a concept and that transnational cooperation brings new chances to light. Tourism is an enormous value for the living standard in the project partner regions. Cultural activities have the power to boost interest and increase the number of guests. Economy is underdeveloped and has a big potential to fill the gap to rich cities and regions. Creative ideas are needed to open new markets and create new jobs.
The region of Murau wants to improve the exchange with Hungary and Slovenia. Hungarian regions welcome Austria guests but need support to become acquainted. Slovenian regions had already partner projects with Graz but extending ideas to North West is always very interesting. They want to increase their image. So as we know that it many cases culture projects opened further collaboration in different fields, cross cultural projects with this countries should be organised. EU and our regions have a common goal. The impact of this project is the start of intensive collaboration between the regions. Where politic and economy touch their limits culture and art open new ways for communication.
