This study looked into the influence of remedial reading in improving comprehension skills of high shool students.
All in all, Alejo (2015) of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization – Innotech (SEAMEO-Innotech) sums up the enhanced K to 12 curriculum as designed to provide a holistic education for all. The K to 12 curriculum is more than just adding years to a child’s schooling. Implemented starting in 2011 and signed into law in 2013, the longer educational cycle of the K-12 curriculum is seen as critical in giving Filipino students a higher quality of education. Now decongested, it will give students ample time to master basic academic skills as well as to participate in co-curricular and community activities.

Research Objective & Themes
The primary objective of this study is to determine the effects of remedial reading interventions on the academic performance of Grade 10 students in World Literature at Pangasinan National High School, specifically evaluating improvements in reading comprehension and the impact of demographic variables.
- Impact of remedial reading on academic performance in World Literature.
- Analysis of student demographic profiles and their correlation with academic outcomes.
- Evaluation of teaching strategies within the K to 12 curriculum framework.
- Comparison of performance between students exposed and not exposed to remedial reading interventions.
Excerpt from the Book
Performance of the Students in World Literature After Exposure to Remedial Reading
The level of performance of the students in the experimental group in World Literature was assessed after their exposure to remedial reading. These results are organized and presented in table 4.
Results of the 60-item multiple choice test administered to the students in the experimental group after the conduct of remedial reading turned out favourably as evidenced by the data in the table. The results of the post test show that of the 45 total number of students in the said group 41 or 91.1% were found satisfactory while 2 or 4.4% proved to be outstanding and 2 or 4.4% were found poor. The noteworthy performance of the students in the test affirmed the good there was to remedial reading. It afforded them the opportunity to read and reinforce their learning outside of their regular class in World Literature after their exposure to remedial reading in World Literature.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the core focus of this research?
The study investigates the effectiveness of remedial reading as an intervention strategy for Grade 10 students struggling with World Literature under the K to 12 curriculum.
What are the primary themes addressed in the work?
Key themes include the impact of socio-economic factors on literacy, the role of teacher-led intervention programs, and the evaluation of reading comprehension performance in a secondary school setting.
What is the central research question?
The study specifically seeks to determine if there is a significant difference in student performance in World Literature before and after exposure to remedial reading, and between those exposed vs. those not exposed to the intervention.
Which scientific methodology does the author employ?
The researcher uses a quantitative, quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test control group design to measure the impact of the remedial reading intervention.
What does the main body of the work examine?
The work covers literature reviews on reading strategies, detailed demographic profiling of the student subjects, and statistical analysis of test performance across different experimental conditions.
Which keywords characterize the work?
The work is characterized by terms such as remedial reading, World Literature, K to 12 curriculum, literacy, and educational intervention.
How were the student subjects selected?
Subjects were selected using convenience sampling from two intact, heterogeneously grouped Grade 10 sections at Pangasinan National High School.
What did the findings conclude regarding remedial reading?
The findings indicate that remedial reading serves as a viable method for enhancing reading comprehension, as students exposed to the intervention demonstrated significantly higher scores compared to those not exposed.
