This is a pragmatic study that explores the relationship between language and society. The study aims to analyse the phenomenon called address-terms performed by the main characters in the selected English dramas "Ruined" and "A Raisin in the Sun". This study has four main objectives. It wants to detect the main types of addressing-terms used by the characters in these dramas as well as their functions. Furthermore, it analyses the factors affecting their selection by the characters and the difference between the two genres, modern and classical, and effect in using the address-terms.
The theoretical framework that has been employed in the data-analysis is the "Communication Accommodation Theory". The type of adjustment whether convergence or divergence as well as the way its components affect the communication, and the strategies that are used for adjusting are analysed. This study employs the mixed content-analysis method since the data underlying the study are books and documents.
Moreover, the findings are presented in the narrative form and tables with numbers and percentages to support the analysis. The results show the great connection between the address terms that are used, the "Communication Accommodation Theory", and the themes of the two plays.

Zielsetzung und Themenschwerpunkte (Objectives and Key Themes)
This study investigates the use of address terms in the modern dramas "Ruined" and "A Raisin in the Sun," analyzing their functions and relationship to the play's themes. The study aims to identify the primary types of address terms employed, examine the factors influencing their selection by characters, and explore the differences in their use between modern and classical dramas. The Communication Accommodation Theory provides the theoretical framework for this research, focusing on convergence and divergence in communication and their impact on the exchange.
- The role of address terms in revealing social dynamics and relationships.
- The influence of factors such as power, status, and intimacy on address term selection.
- The differences in address term usage between modern and classical dramas.
- The connection between address terms and the themes of the plays.
- The application of the Communication Accommodation Theory in understanding address term usage.
Zusammenfassung der Kapitel (Chapter Summaries)
The introduction provides background information on the role of language in society and communication, emphasizing the importance of address terms in revealing social dynamics. It highlights the growing interest in the study of language in context and the contribution of sociolinguistics in understanding the relationship between language and social interactions. The study's aims, research questions, and hypotheses are then presented.
The theoretical framework section delves into the study of address terms and the Communication Accommodation Theory (CAT). This section defines address terms, discusses their significance in conveying social information, and explores the concept of convergence and divergence in communication, providing the theoretical foundation for analyzing the data. The section also discusses the themes of the selected plays.
The methodology and data analysis section outlines the research methodology employed, which involves a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative and quantitative content analysis. The data sources and the procedure for data analysis are described.
The data analysis and interpretation section presents the analysis of address terms used in the plays, examining their functions, types, and the factors influencing their selection. The analysis considers the different categories of address terms, such as titles, kinship terms, and neutral terms, and explores how their use reflects the power dynamics, relationships, and social contexts within the plays.
