The theory of phenomenon of place, as developed by Schulz, emphasized converting the environment into meaning by the invention of new places. According to Andersen (2018), Schulz’s theory insisted on both the spirit of the place as well as its sensuous qualities, which may include symbolism, colors, lighting and materials. In essence, it provides that basic architectural component such as the ceiling, floor or wall are important and experienced as frame for nature, boundary and horizon. However, Lindstrom and Malpas (2020) considers the Phenomenon of Place a descriptive theory since it attempts to distinguish between space and place, and also prescriptive because it identifies the light on the phenomenology.
