Excerpt from the Book

THEORETICAL REVIEW

In terms of management, many organizations in Nairobi have been slowly evolving for the past few years, as far as information Technology is concerned. Information is knowledge that is received and given to people, whereas Technology refers to the invention of tools, techniques and skills. As a combination of these two terms, information Technology is the study or use of systems for storing, retrieving and sending information.

With difficulties like labor turnover, conflict over pay rise or promotion, over working and under – working, information Technology has almost completely managed to control these vices and complexities in various ways.

According to the researchers done by Kenneth C. Laudon and Jane P. Loudon, information Technology can promote various degrees of organization change, ranging from incremental to far reacting in their book ‘Essentials of Management Information Systems.’ The two researchers further state that the most common form of IT- enabled organization change is automation. The first applications of information Technology involved assisting employees with performing their tasks more efficiently and effectively.

Calculating paychecks and pay roll registers, giving bank tellers instant access to customer deposit records and developing a nationwide network of airline reservation terminals for airline reservation agents are all examples of early automation. A deeper form of organization change one that follows quickly from early automation is rationalization of procedures. Automation frequently reveals new obstacles in production and makes the existing arrangement of procedures and structures painfully cumbersome.
