Open Access: What is it?

Open Access means free and free access to scientific publications for all interested parties worldwide. In order to ensure flexible use, open access titles are electronic or online publications which, if necessary, can also appear in parallel in printed form, as with GRIN.

The best-known definition comes from the so-called Budapest Declaration of 2002, a conference of the Budapest Open Access Initiative with the aim of making research results freely accessible to the public.

Open Access refers to the fact that this literature should be freely and publicly available on the Internet, allowing interested parties to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, refer to and otherwise use the full texts in any legal way, without financial, legal or technical barriers beyond those associated with Internet access itself.

This is how the free open access publication at GRIN works:

Why Open Access is the right choice for you:

Layout check

We check your text for readability and printability (Are the margins sufficient for printing? Is the font size easy to read in print? Is the line spacing right? Is the resolution of the illustrations sufficient for good print quality?), embed the fonts if necessary and take care of automatic page numbers and a table of contents.

Publication as e-book and ISBN

With each publication, you will receive an ISBN number for your e-book and print book.

Worldwide distribution

With each publication, you will receive an ISBN number for your e-book and print book. We deliver your book to our worldwide distribution network: over 300 online shops.
