This paper analyzes how Evangelicals interpret and understand Trump and his policy in a way that suits their idea of the world. The first chapter will show how religion developed in America. America's history is crucial for understanding the uniqueness of the religious landscape and helps to comprehend where the evangelical mindset is coming from. After explaining the main ideas of Evangelism, the last chapter will introduce three high-ranking personalities associated with Trump and their influence in politics. The main argument is that these Evangelicals support Donald Trump and promote him because they are reading signals in his appearance, language, and actions that suit the biblical prophecy they believe in.

Because of certain events "[...] many evangelicals begin to feel that they are living in a world like the world of the Bible." For evangelical Christians, the bible is a road map that tells the future and shapes the way they view the present. They aim for a foreign policy that is affirming those prophecies. Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States, who is representing the Republican Party, depends on their votes as white evangelical Protestants have become the most pro-Republican of all the major religious traditions and are considered the base or core of the contemporary party in elections.

Excerpt from the Book

2.2 Trumps proof to be God’s instrument

The Trump administration is using not only language to address Evangelicals, there are certain actions and decisions that are invested with divine intention: the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s “eternal capital”, the relocation of the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, its withdrawal from the Iran Nuclear deal and the assassination of Soleimani.54 Many Evangelicals were inspired by Trumps action and John Hagee, a famous American pastor and televangelist said that he is sure God almighty got involved in the electoral process and appointed Trump “[…] when Donald Trump started saying good things about Israel, the winds of heaven got behind his political sails and pushed him right to the White House.”55 Trump’s victory is represented as further proof of the reality of the biblical promise of Genesis 12:3 and Romans 15:27 that claim that blessing Israel is a divine decree require all Christians to support the modern state of Israel.56 According to Evangelicals, it is a religious duty to help Israelis as they are the people contributing to the fulfilment of God’s plan by fighting against the evil before the return of Christ.57 President Trump decided to relocate the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. With a tweet he further showed a strong commitment by announcing that it’s time for the U.S. to fully recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the disputed Golan Heights. Many Evangelicals saw in Trumps move evidence that he is the new Cyrus, a Persian Emperor, a Gentile who freed the Jews from their Babylonian Captivity, he oversaw the Jews return to Jerusalem and rebuild the Temple.58 Further the coincidence that Trump is the 45th president of the United States can be interpreted as a connection to Isaiah 45 where the story of King Cyrus is located. Perry Stone, a Pentecostal preacher also draws parallels from Trumps aim to build a wall at the U.S. border to Mexico with Cyrus decree to build a wall around Jerusalem. Trumps decision to move the embassy was a good idea as it was a blessing to Israel what will render blessings upon America in return.
